Changing Stewart C-628 LED Headlights
Posted by modelmaker51 on Thursday, September 11, 2008 8:54 PM

Has anyone changed out the yellow headlight LEDs on the Stewart C-628?  I tried with some suface mount LEDs from Richmond Controls, but they were too small.

Has any else attempted this?

I could never get satisfactory results from ANYthing I did with the factory board (I like BRIGHT lights) so I scapped it altogether.

Instead, I went the traditional route and mounted a piggy-backed pair of warm white 3mm LEDs right behind the headlight lense. I then replaced the class light plastic "sprues" with lengths of fiber-optics. I ran each corresponding pair of strands back to a 3mm white, red and green LED mounted in the roof. Each LED is controlled by its own function from the decoder.

Not only are all the lenses displaying a much more prominent light, I control the lights - not the direction of the engine !!!

Mark.
