A TCS T-1 is a good choice for any model where it will fit. I put one of these into an IHC 4-6-2 boiler and a separate SoundTraxx DSX Sound-Only decoder into the tender, which had its own electrical pickups for the backup light. Your 4-6-2 may be different depending on the time of manufacture.

I would like to install a decoder in my IHC 4-6-2. Can I get a recommendation as to which decoder to install? I'd like to be able to use the engine on both dc and dcc layouts. I'm currently running the NCE PowerCab,but my sons layout is still dc. I do not plan to use sound.
