DCC Function Expansion
Posted by alloboard on Monday, August 25, 2008 1:07 AM
Can you add functions onto a DCC decoder when you run out? How do you wire an additional decoder like a sound decoder onto an existing motor and function decoder? i.e wiring a Digitrax SFX0416 on to a Digitrax DH163D.

no, but you can add on a function only decoder to control the needed extras, the digitrax four function decoder is about the size of a navy bean and sells for under $20
When in doubt, rule #1 applies Central Missouri Railroad Association cmrraclub.com

No, but you can change to a different decoder that has the additional functions, or add a function-only decoder if there's room for one.

Adding an additional decoder is simply a matter of parallelling the connections to the first decoder for the power pick up from the trucks. You would only need to connect one set of truck connections as both trucks are already inter-connected through the first decoder board.
