NCE D13SRJ resistor value??
Posted by loathar on Saturday, August 2, 2008 3:23 PM

I picked up one of these decoders. It says they have 12-14v output for the light functions and to use a 1/4 watt 1k resistor in line if your going to use LEDs. It also says the decoder has pads on the back of it for mounting SMD resistors for the lighting outputs if your going to use LEDs. I'm assuming you can do this instead of using a standard resistor in line on the wire outputs. Should I "assume" that you would still use a 1/4watt 1k SMD mounted to these pads? (same value as the in line standard resistor?) This sure would make for a cleaner installation instead of using an inline resistor.

Do other manufacturers with 12v light outputs offer this option on their decoders? I think it's a pretty nice option.

Train Control Systems (TCS) offers decoders will built-in voltage regulators for 1.5 Volt Athearn headlight bulbs and LEDs.

Yes, the SMD should also be rated 1kohm/1/4w. It's funny, I have installed 20+ of those decoders and never noticed that I could use SMDs untill you mentioned it.Whistling [:-^]

Thanks! I think it's a really nice feature. Sometimes it's hard to put a 1/4 watt in line without it melting the shell in some tight applications. Apparently the markings on the back of the board are a bit confusing. Mine came with a little note that said-

F on the back of the board=yellow back up light wire
R=white forward light wire
1=violet F2 output
2=green F1 output

I guess the F1 and F2 and the 1 and 2 got switched when they made the run of boards.
