Antonio,
I just noticed the comments you made on my Picture Trail site. Thanks for the kind words and the guest book entry. I have had a lot of fun with this structure building aspect of the hobby.
Best wishes to you
Simon
You're most welcome, Simon. I enjoyed lookng at your work and (hope you don't mind) downloaded several of the pictures to use for reference when I build structures on my layout.
"I like my Pullman Standards & Budds in Stainless Steel flavors, thank you!"
Simon thanks for the clarafiation.
Ebay has been good for LEDs all around.
I need to get out more, "warm white" and "surface mount " are entirely new to me.
You're more than welcome !!!
The last batch I ordered even came with resistors as well ! Once you get the knack down for soldering the leads on (I use 32 awg wire wrap from Radio Shack) you'll find lots of uses for them. I even installed one in the ceiling of a telephone booth !!!
Mark.

Mark, thanks for the tip, I just ordered 50 at 50cents a piece to see how good they are. Can't beat the price, that's for sure. Shipping included from Hong Kong!
Dub the T = Technology the D I think in this instance is either a typo or means Diode?
It took a while, but I figured SMT and SMD refer to Surface Mount.
Not too sure about the T or D.
The 120 degree angle for dispersion for a surface mount sounds appealing.
Simon, you had a bright idea with the lamp.
Thanks for the info, Mark. Ebay's a good idea.

FWIW, I get my SMT leds through ebay stores. Just do a search on the main page for "smt warm white" and then go to the ebay stores section .... they can be had for less than 50 cents each in quantity !

Yes I beleive it was. I really need to find a new source, so with check out Mouser and the other companies suggested.
Here's a link to Ngineering. Check out the LED that fits in Lincoln's ear on a penny!! Has anybody used these? I thought I might try one in my lamp. That is, if I can see it to work with it!!

And Simon, thanks for your link. I'll try it.

SWEET, Simon! Is that one of the "warm" white LEDs? I hear they give a pretty good old time incandescent look.
Nice use of the SMT LED. I love those things. A couple of ma is all that is needed to get a pretty bright light, so a lot of them can be used to get great diffusion. I get them at Mouser, with a large selection and fast delivery.
Markalan,
Thanks for posting this thread. I went to Simon's website and was blown away by his work.
Simon, you're the man!

Mark,
Thanks for the compliment, it was a fun scene to make and one that gets a lot of comments.
The lamp and much of the furniture in the structure came from the IHC Furniture Store. It is no longer listed on the IHC web site but I found a link to one on e-Bay http://cgi.ebay.com/IHC-HO-U%2FA-%22FURNITURE-STORE%22-KIT-No.4-7774-LIGHTED-KIT-_W0QQitemZ280246324724QQcmdZViewItem?IMSfp=TL0807151548r3075
This kit came with a whole sprue of plastic furniture including this lamp. The lamp was of course not lit. I carefully drilled out the shade (it was a solid casting) and inserted a micro surface mount LED. I soldered really fine wires to it and ran these down the back of the lamp base. I them glued the lamp shade onto the base with a dab of white glue.
I purchased the LED's from the DCC dealer Loys Toys during their liquidation sale a couple of years ago when they were closing the business. I have not troubled to find another source as I still have a few left.
I hope that helps?
I just finished an industrial building for my urban layout. I planned to build an upstairs office in the building so that at night, with the rest of the building is dark, the desk in the office would be lit by lamp light while the owner "burned the midnight oil" working at his desk. Then yesterday at lunch time, while reading the Quantum Revolution thread on this forum, I idly clicked on Simon1966's link to his photo gallery. And there, to my surprise was a very similar scene. It's great!!!
Here's a link to the specific picture. http://www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/16755888/268633342?&offset=850
My question--where did the lamp come from, or anythng like it? I haven't yet pursued finding one and don't need to reinvent the wheel. Also, I suspect the LED used is one similar to those sold by Ngineering. They have some really tiny ones.
Any thoughts about a source for a desk or table lamp that could be wired with an LED?
Thanks,
