Decoder pro and Blueline decoders

  Hi guys.

 I'm a new user to Decoder Pro. I have a couple of questions about using it with the BLI Blueline decoders.

1. Do I have to remove the mobile decoder first?

2. If I have to remove the decoder, do I need to insert a dummy plug?

 I have tried to read the decoder but all it sees is the TCS mobile decoder. I don't need an argument about them being junk. The two I have run flawless and sounds great. I just want to tweak some individual volumes like the annoying steam generator and air pumps.

1. Do I have to remove the mobile decoder first?

For reading definitely, otherwise both decoders will try to respond.

For writing, not necessarily, but it might be easier to.  There are tricks using the decoder lock CVs or using ops mode programming and having different primary addresses for programming and matching extended addresses for running (or vice-versa).

I use Decoder Pro on a MacBook Pro, connecting via wifi to a Roco z21 hardware controller. No need to "remove the decoder". Just put it on the track (can be programming track or main track), and just "do what you need".

Why would one need to remove it?

  In the BLI Blueline locomotives there are two decoders. One is the sound and the other is lights and motor.

I was able to tweak the Blueline decoders with the TCS decoder unplugged. They sound good to my old ears.
