Reverse loop sensing section

Reading the October MR on sensing sections and am a little confused. My situation is different from the picture. I will have a two track main with industries on both sides. The loop on the end will be several staging tracks in the loop so it makes sense to have all the operating trackage with the same polarity and switch the end loops which will be one track at each end joining the rr with several storage tracks. The diagram say's I should have a sensing section at each end but an psx-arfb only has 2 connections on either end. My assumption is that both sensing sections should be parallel wired to each other and then connected to the psx-arfb.  Is that correct?

i think the article is describing "sensing sections" for automatic turnout control.   i don't believe this is your situation

however if you have a 2 track mainline, i'm not sure why you have a revering section.   wouldn't the right hand mainline track feed into the staging counter-clockwise and staging would exit into the opposite mainline track?

Yes, but there are industries on both sides requiring switch crews to cross to an over the opposing main. Otherwise a reverser would be needed for the mains. My thinking is to have them be compatible and reverse the loops.

Plan is basically a loop. Basic running is a ywo track main with right hand running. The end loops contain 6 tracks for staging at each end.  Locals will switch industries on both sides of the two mains. This requires either the mains to be wired the same or they will need a reverser which will also require a reverser for the loops.. It seems easier to wire the mains the same and reverse the loop ends. Hope this is clearer.

The pictures in the article are a little confusing because they show the PSX-ARFB, but then they show a track diagram that goes with the PSX-ARSC.  The PSX-ARSC allows automatic control of turnouts, which the PSX-ARFB does not.  With the PSX-ARFB, you will just have the isolated reversimg section and no sensing sections.

Do your mainlines have a crossover connecting them?

Typically, it is easier to reverse the two ends and keep the mainlines in phase with one another.

Hi CSX Robert,

All PSX-AR units are able to control turnouts using the following three methods:

  1. Auto Throw
  2. DCC accessory command
  3. Manual push button

The alpha characters designate what type of motor the PSX-AR can control. For example the PSX-AR controls Tortoise slow motion switch machines. The PSX-ARSC can power snap coil [SC] machines from Atlas, Peco, and Kato.

The FB [feedback] indicates the PSX-AR can be connected to a reporting device such as the NCE AIU for switch position.

So a PSX-ARSCFB can control a snap coil and has feedback. I hope this clarifies things.
