Grain of Wheat Lamp- DCC
Posted by dbduck on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 11:07 AM

i am getting ready to install & wire a manaually controlled reversing section on my layout. My question is... can i install a low current (12v-40ma) Grain of Wheat lamp with proper resistor etc..  across one of the gaps between the main & reversing section  that would illuminate when the sections are not the same polarity?  Digitrax DCC system. Would it cause a short  or interfere with the data?

Yes you can, to the DCC system it would be no different than the same lamp in a lighted passenger car.

I use a similar circuit but with LEDs.  I run dual mode, DC or DCC, I’m not sure whether the GOW would trip an auto reverser.  I don’t use auto reversers, I use toggles.

I run about 80% in DC mode and 20% in DCC.
