Mrc n scale mogul 2-6-0 and NCE powercab
Posted by MacTrom on Saturday, April 3, 2021 5:52 PM

Just received my new mogul and test ran on single track with my NCE powercab. Sound is weak, I thought the whistle was a startup engine sound. Not sharp at all. Startup speed was way too high, 20, I tri3d to change the start voltage cv but it didn't seem to take. Doc says cv 3=10 for starting voltage.

any help? I'm not that fluent in DCC, and I tested my track with my Berkshire and it performed as expected.

Terry,

  • Start voltage (Vstart) is CV2
  • Maximum voltage (Vmax) is CV5
  • Momentun is CV3 & CV4

Use your Power Cab to read CV2 in Programming Mode and change it to a lower value, if possible.

Not a big fan of MRC sound.  Someone on here said their newer sound decoders are much better than their initial offerings - i.e. pre-2010.  You might want to check to see if the speaker baffle is defective or missing.  That might account for the weak sound output.

Ah, you're right. I guess I read the spec wrong. I'll test it out in the morning.
