NCE Power Cab
Posted by BostonHO on Monday, January 25, 2021 6:58 PM

I have an NCE power cab that I tried to hook up to a section of loose track to test a locomotive. However I keep getting the message that it can't read the CV. I tried three different locomotives, two different pieces of track and three different sets of wires going to the track but still no luck. Where is the issue occuring?

If you connected to the proper socket on tthe panel with the proper six wire cable it should work. I have the power cab. The red LED should be lit. The Cab display should be on or the unit is bad.

The instructions are very clear.

Can you run any of the locos? If they are brand new, they should be on address 3. That's short address 3, so hit select loco, 3, enter. There are very few locos the PowerCab can't read, so it's unlikely that the specific decoder is causing a problem. Unless they are all old MRC sound decoders, some of which didn't even HAVE read capability.

Hi,

Are you using the programing track or are you attempting to read the CV using program on the main? If you want to read the CV you need to use the program track. you can do this by pushing the (Prog ESC) key on the bottom left side of the Power Cab. Another option is the NCE USB for Power Cab will allow you to connect a computer to the DCC system and use JMIR software to read or change a CV. Hope this helps. please note that you will need to purchase a USB from NSC to connect you computer.

I have to agree with Randy. I have had the Power Cab for some years and have read four different brands of decoders, no problem.
