Is there a CV for default function states?

Title says it all basically... I've been using DCC for a few years but only recently started fiddling with CVs. I was hoping there'd be CVs to set so that lights and sound would be on by default, rather than off by default. But I looked through the NMRA list of CVs, and the Loksound manual, and didn't see anything about this.

It's not really a problem if there are no CVs that set default function states. I can program it into my command station instead. But it's such an obvious CV to have, I'm surprised that it doesn't seem to exist, or did I miss it somewhere?

If you mean for a resetting the decoder back to factory settings then - yes.  However, it's different for each decoder manufacturer.  Here's a primer for a majority of decoders:

Rapido uses Loksound in their RDCs (Reset: CV8 = 8).  Bachmann's "Sound Value" decoder is a Soundtraxx (Reset: CV30=2 or CV8=8).

I thought Bachmann sound value always had sound and not only the default was sound on, but sound that couldn't be turned off. 

As for lights, some people want both forward and rear lights on, some want Rule 17.  The loksound gives one the flexibility to do that.  Not sure about Bachmann

Loksound decoders can be programmed to have lights and sound on by default. The easiest way to do it is with the LokProgrammer in the function mapping section but you can download the software for free without buying the programmer. It will tell you which CV values need to change and you can then make the changes manually with your DCC system.

Not sure about ESU, but I know many companies set up their decoders to default to no sound until the engine is addressed by a DCC system. That avoids turning on your layout and having a sudden rush of 20 sound engines all coming to life at once, which in some cases can overtax the DCC system...or just make a lot of noise!

If you're dedicated to using Loksound decoders, you probably should go ahead and get a LokProgrammer. With all the options ESU decoders have, it's the easiest way to get the decoder set just the way you want it.

You can turn sound off but sound on is default.
