Can anyone point me to resources about train control automation... either using DCC for HO trains or something more specialized for legacy O guage? I'm planning a display layout using some of my collection for the usual holiday setup, and would very much like to advance beyond the usual "trains run continuously in circles". Yet despite great effort I'm not finding any info about fully automated train and switch control. Any advice or suggestions would be hugely appreciated.

Jeff,
If this is for O-scale, you might also try posting your query over on the Classic Toy Trains forum:

It's primarily O-scale there and they may know something more specific to help you with your goal.

JMRI does that sort of thing. It's oriented toward DCC control, but it's a modular thing so parts of it might be hacked to support O gauge ops (presuming it's Lionel you're referring to).

Thank you!... much appreciated. I will separately post over in the Classic Toys forum as you suggest. At this point I'm undecided which trains to use.
