Hello! I've recently purchased Loksound for my Atlas Dash 8 and a speaker with it that I need to put into my locomotive. There is the spot where the weights can be taken out, but I've noticed that the motor rod runs right through it. How can I install it without messing up the motor? Thanks, Joey

TCS Wow sound shows 2 different installations on Atlas Dash 8's. One has a round disc in the weight that can be removed for a speaker, the other shows a speaker glued to the engine shell roof.

If it's the type with the round weight in the speaker hole, with an A frame for speakers - you should get a round speaker that fits the opening. The drive shaft running through there is not a problem and won't hurt anything. That's where the Gold series that come with sound have their speakers.
If it's the type with the square weight, that weight is also the place where the rear light is held, so just removing that weight will require more work to fit a speaker there. Plus that may be too much weight removed from the loco. Better to mount a speaker elsewhere as the TCS pictures show.

No, the square weight in the rear is a separate piece. You can just remove the screw (or screws? I think there's just one) and lift out the weight without affecting the motor or trucks. It gives you more room for a speaker, but as noted you will need to work out a way to wire up the rear headlight (unless you decide you don't really need it).
