Digitrax PR4 and Windows 10
Posted by willy6 on Friday, September 13, 2019 1:27 PM

Being a "baby boomer" I have not amassed alot of PC expertise, I basically know enough to get by. I just read to insructions to download Digitrax PR4 and that is alot of things to do, I thought it would be just a few clicks and a download and your done, boy was I wrong. Oh well, that is what getting old is all about.

Being old is when you didn't loose it, it's that you just can't remember where you put it.

It is not the age of the person, it is the amount of assume the person relies on.

Do you keep your Windows 10 current using Windows Update?

If you do, then you should be able to plug in your PR4 and it will Just Work.

The reason is because Microsoft changed Win10 as of about version 1703 or 1709 [1], and Win10 will now correctly recognize the PR4 (and the PR3) and will install the proper drivers. No action is needed on the user's part to install any drivers. [2]

[1] Open a command prompt and type in "winver" (without the quotes) to see what version you have. 1703 was released in May 2017 and version 1709 in October 2017. The current version is 1903, released in May 2019.

[2] This is spelled out in large red print at the top of the first page of the PR3/PR4 Win10 installation instructions, included with the PR4 and available here.

There are 3 words in the word assume.

I'm a baby boomer too, I built my last desktop computer and several before that, have no knowledge of CAD design, only slightly more of Arduino and some things, like geek speak in the electricity forum, cannot be learned by some people.  Big Smile

" Stevert, thanks I will try that."

Before you ask "What is a Command Prompt "

Start Win10. Move cursor down laft side to the Win10  window

Do a RIGHT click on the white window.

Find  "RUN " and select it.

In this new window type :  winver

Win10 will open new window with the version details.  If it says 1709, you are in luck.
