New guy here saying hello
Posted by Greenwood Central PA on Monday, September 9, 2019 10:17 AM

Hi there,

Just wanted to say hi and get to know some of you. I'm fairly new to DCC, maybe a year or so into it, and I've setup my new freelance RR called the Greenwood Central, modeling Conrail in HO.
I'm also into electronics and have been working with Arduino controllers for a while now. Currentl I'm working on mounting servos to control my turnouts with Arduino Nano's and also some block sensing with IR sensors and Signals.

Welcome to the Forum.  Your intial posts are moderated.

It sounds like we are going to want to see your photos.  Posting photos are unlike most forums I belong to.  There is a "sticky" a permanent post in the general forum that gives directions on how to do it.  Cheating does not work.

Hi AJ!

Welcome to the forums!!!   Welcome

I'm glad to hear that you are into Arduinos! The use of Arduinos in the hobby still seems to be limited to a few brave souls. I bought a starter kit a while ago but when I started to look into it my eyes glazed over. Perhaps you will be able to offer the dinosaurs among us (like me) some encouragement and coaching.

Cheers!!

Dave

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!

Welcome. Welcome

I am a LION...

... and I build SUBWAY TRAINS.

None of this DCC or Adrino nonsence for me. No little black chips that I do not know what they are doing. Railroad of LION is wired the old fashioned way.

Here is Relay Room of LION...

Nice and simple, and I can see what every thing does. And a nice CLICK tells me that it did it.

Welcome

I haven’t yet used any Ardionos in model railroading but I’ve always wanted to since I learned about their existence. You can probably be my dream layout will be full of them!

Nice idea to have a thread introducing yourself, I wish I’d done that when I was new!

Regards, Isaac

Welcome Aboard AJWelcome

I’m also HO scale (early to mid 50s) and I'm also into Arduino, servos and IR for pretty much everything.  My layout is rather small, 14’x10’ in our garage, 30 years old and far from finished.

It’s good to have another Arduino junkie on the Forum.Thumbs Up

I only have one turnout servo working right now, between the Bakersfield heat (105°+) and arthritis flare-ups it kinda slow going through the summer heat for Old Shaky Mel.

I have 8 UNO Random Lighting Controllers another dozen or so NANOs and UNOs for miscellaneous automation of lights and moving goodies.  I have a pair of MEGAs for signaling and servo controllers.

I bought some servos and have been experimenting with using them for route control.  I too am interested in your projects.
