Questions for MRC prodigy users

I'm investigating the MRC prodigy dcc system (Advance2 with WiFi or wireless control).  My questions:

Have you used a  wireless throttle  Like it?  Any limitations?  Recommend?

Have you used the wifi setup and controlled trains with an cell phone or tablet? Like it?  Any limitations?  Recommend?

Do you use the link to your computer?  If so, do you program decoders in JMRI or with the new MRC app?  Do you recommend?

Overall opinion of MRC prodigy system?

I haven’t used wireless, don’t see a need for it on my small layout.  I do connect JMRI to my Prodigy and that works better than great for programming, sure beats using the handheld.

 

I also use and prefer the 1700 series MRC sound decoders.  I have one TCS decoder with the Cab Forward sound, it is closer to the real SP sound than the MRC decoders but due to the higher cost of the TCS I’m sticking with the MRCs for the rest.  I have a couple of other manufacturer sound decoders and I can’t tell the difference between them and the MRC decoders.

 

Overall I’m quite happy with my Prodigy, not a single problem since I opened the box and hooked it up in 2004 or 2005.

If you're looking for wifi wireless control using a graphical interface on either iOS (iPhones and iPads) or Android (phone or tablet), you might look at the Roco z21 system as well. Plenty of videos on YouTube that explain it and show how it works.

No offense but I'm not interested in the roco z21.

I started out with the Express, have been useing Prodigy Advance2 since about 2006. Converdited to wireless & have had no issues.Went as far as buying a second wireless throttle. Got it all (in stages) on sale & free shipping from Micro Mark. Very happy with my system. My layout is not large but I enjoy the ease of the wireless.  Do not use wi-fi or computer programming.
