Regret I bought it
Posted by Nickel Plate Road on Saturday, February 23, 2019 8:32 PM

SO I bought replacment parts that NCE said I needed to get my power cab trottle to work and it did nothing to improve the piece of crap. Now that I have poured at least $500 into this ride around the bowl.

My next step is to buy a pro cab trottle or rip out the nce and go back to direct current.  The N.C.E has been such a stellar disappointment and has soured my desire to use dcc.

Something doesn't sound right here.

What was the unit not doing?

Why did you not send it back to NCE for repair?

And how could you possibly spend $500 to try to "correct" something that retails for $200 or less?

Angelo,

So did you end up replacing the key pad membrane on your Power Cab?  Along with maxman's query, what are the options of sending it back to NCE for possible repair?

Remind me again what NCE told you needed replacing?  And the issues happen whether you use the Power Cab with the SB5, or by itself?

Angelo, I'd encourage you to give NCE a reasonable shake in rectifying the issues you are experiencing.  I've found them to be a very good company to deal with and offer a quality product line.  There's only so much they can triage over the phone or by email - without actually having the item in their facility to test.

So something is not right.

Some years ago the back light on my Power cab stopped working after I dropped the cab. I emailed NCE first.

I sent it back and NCE repaired it for free because I had registered it. All I paid was the cost of shipping just the cab.

I ditto all the responses to date, especially Tom's.  I have found NCE to be a great company to deal with.  Before you send anything to NCE, you might want to check if there is an authorized dealer closer to you.  I send all my electronics issues to Litchfield Station which is a 25 minute drive away from my house.

I have been an NCE user for the entire 15 year period that I have had a DCC-powered layout. Their product performance is superior. I agree with the others to contact NCE, and call rather than email. They do answer the phone.

The OP's previous thread on this subject:

Had you sent it back to NCE 2 months ago, odds are it would be fixed by now.
