Filtered dc throttle?
Posted by MacTrom on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 3:50 PM

I have two MRC Tech II throttles, a 2400 and 2500. Can anyone tell me if these are “filtered dc” throttles? I plan on running a dual decoder Berkshire N on my DC layout and understand it runs better on filtered DC.

Heres a discussion back in April.

See if you can get the info you need from it.  I'm sure others with way more knowledge on the subject will chime in.

They're not filtered, but they should run a decoder loco ok. Very few DC throttles use PWM, which is what confuses the heck out of DCC decoders because it looks like a DCC signal.

If the loco is sound and DCC, doesn't matter what power pack you use, running it on DC will be less than satisfactory.

It seems to me that I have seen somewhere that power packs with pulse power can be harmful to at least some decoders.  Can't remember where I saw this, but you might want to check on it before exposing your decoders to it.

Good luck,

Richard

Received my Berkshire today and read through basic set up for analog use. Seemed good to go, so with minor trepidation, placed engine on track and fed it the barest of DC. Lights on, sound, slow starting, but steady. In reverse. Brought engine to a halt, flipped direction switch and eased on the throttle. engine slowly came to life, sounds, lights, and continued to reverse. Powered down. Turned off power. turned power back on. Tried again, and engine continued backing up. Even tried swapping power leads to track.

Tried to log in to Bachman’s user group, and still awaiting registration confirmation. So I’m here looking for thoughts and ideas.

Engine: brand new Bachman N Berkshire.

Power: MRC Tech II 250 DC powerpack. Momentum turned off.

I had trouble too, when I joined.  What finally got things rolling was an email to their on line store.  I tried searching back in my emails to find it, so I could pass it on to you, but it is long gone.

So look on their web site for an online store address, and send an email through that.  I was told at the time, that a lot of request go unoticed and don't get replied to.

I'll continue looking through my notes and see if I can find the address.  I think the guys name was Bob ?

Good luck.

Mike.
