N scale Kato SD80Mac with NCE decoder. lights not working?
Posted by CTConrail on Saturday, December 15, 2018 8:44 PM

Hey guys, so I picked up a Kato SD80MAC with an NCE decoder and got it working however the lights do not come on in either direction. They do flicker when I move or nudge the engine by hand and they did flash every time I went through a programming sequence on my PowerCab so I know the lights work. Seems like a programming issue. Any ideas? Thanks!

First step is to reset the decoder. Since it's an NCE decoder, you can either use the Decoder Reset option in the programming menu of the PowerCab, or just set CV30 to 2 and then tip the loco off the rails to cut power. It should then run on short address 3 with basic directional lights.

Thanks Randy I'll give this a shot and see what happens.  I thought I remember doing this via the reset option and then programmed it to the cab number before testing and still no luck but I will try again and test before changing the ID number. Have to set up a test track as my layout isn't built yet. Ill keep you posted. Thanks again.
