I just bought a Scale Trains SD 40-2 with sound. I mostly run DC but have the Tech 6 to run the few sound locos I have. The sound on the SD 40-2 is a bit too loud for me. Is there a way to tone it down a bit and can I do it with the tech 6 or do I have to have an all out DCC system. Thanks
Bruce
If you don't have any manuals, google mrc tech 6 and the third hit is the MRC manual in pdf form that tells you how to change CV's
If you go to the scale trains site and download the appropriate manual for your engine. The Operators version of the SD-40 uses the ESU decoder and the master volume is CV 63 default = 128 I would change that to 64 and see how you like it.

Bruce,Your Scale Trains SD 40-2 came with a DCC manual and find the CV for lowering sound volume and enter that CV setting then adjust.Your manual will have the numbers to enter.

do you need to have the handheld unit do make changes, I don't have one just the basic unit.
Downloaded the manuals and made the changes, now the sound is much more tolerable, thanks for the replys and the help
Thanks for the resolution, it may help the next guy with the same problem. Someone could have been a lot more specific on what you needed to do, but now you know how to fish
