How to install JMRI on a computer without an internet connection
Posted by ROBERT BRABAND on Thursday, July 05, 2018 2:40 PM

I have a computer that does not have an internet connection. Is there a way to get an installation CD, or a way to create one from a computer that already has JMRI installed? I looked through the JMRI website but didn't see anything about their having the program (or app as the kids call it today) on media. I know enough about computers to be dangerous, so that just copying the program files to the other computer by, say, a USB drive, wouldn't work - you need to run an installation program.

Any hope?

Robert,

Do you have a library nearby that has internet?  If so, use a library computer to download JMRI from the JMRI website onto a thumbdrive then install it onto your home computer.  It's an .exe (executable) file so that's all you will need to successfully install it.

In addition to downloading the JMRI install .exe file to a flash drive as Tom mentions, you will also need to have the correct level of Java installed on your offline computer (JMRI runs under Java).

If you do not, you can also download the offline Java installer to that same flash drive.  Install Java first, then install JMRI.

More info here:

Disregard the "Offline Insallation" section on that Web page, it seems to be outdated.
