Hi everyone,
So I recently bought an Athearn Genesis 2-8-2 with a digitrax decoder installed (DH123 to be precise). I tried to have the decoder programmed to a certain number, but the programming software (not sure what software unfortunately) said there was no locomotive detected. There wasn't a problem with the track, as it had just programmed another one of my locomotives before. What are some potential diagnoses and solutions for this issue?
Dirty wheels is what I would check first-clean track next-use jumpers to eliminate any wheel track issues. Just because it’s new does not mean the wheels are making good contact
Does it respond at all on the main line? Does it run or do the lights come on? I'm thinking there's a loose wire inside.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
Go into 'programming on the main' or 'ops mode' and acquire the address "00". Then do a hard factory reset for the decoder....you do know which one it is. Turn off track power, re-power the rails, and see if it works on the default address "03".
Do be good and sure the decoder is getting track power first, though. It could be dirty wipers or rails or tires, as previously suggested.
Mjorstad I tried to have the decoder programmed to a certain number, but the programming software (not sure what software unfortunately) said there was no locomotive detected
It could also be a dead decoder. What DCC system are you using?

Using Digitrax. I will mention that it's a club layout, not my own.
