I have 4 walthers santa fe units w/sound. when i run them, it sounds like the wheels have a flat spot. i turned the sound off and still have the sound. it is on all four engines and happens everywhere on the layout so it is not the track. how can all four have the same sounds and what is it?
Welcome, Mark. Maybe describe what locos you have. This a long shot at best, but the cracked gear problem sounds like a flat spot on a wheel, kind of a bump bump as the loco moves, and sometime you can even notice a slight bounce in the truck.
Knowing just what locos you have would help figuring out your problem.

I have the walthers new F3s. They all have the same thug-thug sound which increases with speed. I have 5 and they all have the same problem. I have turned off the sound thinking it might be in the sound loop but the sound remains. It might be a defective gear but is it possible for all 5 HO scale F3s to have the same problem? I emailed walthers but no response.
So you the Intermountain F3 with LokSound and DCC? or the Walthers Proto 2000 F3?

Is this a noise or a definitive mechanical bind? Looking forward to your video for further analysis and possible solution to your issue. Over the past several years I have experienced numerous issues with Walther’s products (130’TT and SD70ace locomotives), so your issue comes as no surprise. I will be curious as to the reason for your troubles with 4 locomotives. Again.....post your video and update this post with any additional troubleshooting steps you have taken.
