Digitrax DT402 Throttle

Digitrax DT402 Throttle

I know this has to be simple, and I am a little embrassed to ask, but I have not been able to find the information I need in the manual.  I am using a TCS WOW 101 KA engine and sound decoder on a 2-8-8-2.  How do I enter a 2 digit sound command on my DT402 throttle?  Thanks for your help!

I'll let others with more Digitrax knowledge address the DT402 query.  I do want to mention that there is a distinct "sound mode" and "light mode" for TCS Wow decoders.  You have to be sure you that the correct mode is "enabled" before any functions can be triggered for that mode.  To move between the two modes: Press F8 twice in rapid sucession.

I have one TCS Wow decoder in a diesel locomotive switcher and it seems like I have to keep re-learning that everytime I use it.

To get above F12, you hold down the Func key and press 1. The display should show XtdFn+10. Then if you hit 1, you get 11, 2 is 12 and so on, up to 9 for 19. To get F20-28, hold down Func and hit 2. The display will say XtdFn+20. Now 0-8 will get 20-28.

 Frankly, aside from trying things out, I've had very little use for functions past 12. I don't need barnyard sounds, radio chatter, station calls, or train wreck sounds. Loksound locates all the important stuff below 12: Lights, bell, horn, coupler, brake, Full Throttle, mute.

Shucks, I learn sumthin' each day.  Does this go for the DT400 as well?  Don't know how I missed that because I actually did read the manual at least three times over the years...eight years ago.

 No, the DT402 is the first throttle that goes over F12. You can get a DT400 upgraded to a DT402 by sending it back. I suppose I should send mine in while I don't have a layout. I want to upgrade one of mine to radio, as well. I got a DT400 a long time back, not long after I got my Zephyr, and then I got a DT402.  A few years ago I got a working DT100, which is great for train running - it's small like the UT4m but you need a shift key to get past F4, which is fine since normally all I need is lights, horn, and bell. It actually can program like a DT400 but only a real masochist would try it - it is from that throttle that the Digitrax "it's too hard to use" reputation was earned - you only have 2 knobs and 8 buttons, and the displays are only 2 digits for each knob, so you can't just type in 105 for a CV value. 

 I just use it for running trains - the 8 buttons are real buttons, not the rubber domes like on the DT400. It should last until I bust off the encode shaft trying to change direction - there is a direction button, the knob does not click to change direction like all the newer ones.

 Once upgraded to DT402 standards, further upgrades can be done at home by flashing the memory with the DigiIPL program. Andt the DT402 knows how to handle the extended slots in the new DCS240.
