A Signal Question
Posted by TrainsRMe1 on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 8:00 PM

Hey Guys n Gals,                                                                                                       I have a question for you guys, I know I  use  1K 1/4WATT resistors for my combo house signals from NJ international, now here's the problem, I wanted to move my signals to a new location, in the process I cut some resistors in half, now I found some resistors that have, they have  YELLOW, PURPLE, BROWN, and GOLD bands, I don't know the bands, would these resistors work with my signals???                                                 Thank You for help with this matter,Cool TRAINSRME

Here is a handy workaround:

If you have even a basic Volt-ohm meter you can read across the leads and get a good idea of the value as well.

Purple is actually Violet BTW Smile The resistor you have looks like a 5% 470Ω.

Hope that helps, Ed

If you are feeding the signals with 12V, the 470 ohm won't be enough. Luckily resistors are cheap. You can buy them from Amazon even.
