PSX-1 and Digitrax Zephyr Not Playing Well Together

I hope one of you can help.  

 

I have read through the instructions that came with the PSX-1 several times, but I must be missing something. 

 

I have the PSX-1 connected to a Digitrax Zephyr DCS50.  If I take a simple non-sound DCC locomotive and run it, then there are no problems.  However, if I try to run a sound DCC locomotive I get short circuits almost immediately and with one locomotive I get a short circuit as soon as I put it on the track.  

 

I have jumpers J3-2 to J3-3 for normal operations, jumpers J7-4 to J7-3 for Weak System Boost enabled and OPSW#18 set to closed, and I have J6-1 to J6-2 set for 1.27 amps. 

 

What am I doing wrong?  Your input would be appreciated.  I can upload a photograph of my setup if that would help.  Thanks.

I think I may have solved the problem, using my SPROG and DecoderPro I was able to program CV49 and set it to 2.  This changed the trip current to 2.54 amps instead of the 1.27 amps I was using before.

Now both sound and non-sound DCC locomotives work fine.

That was fun troubleshooting.

Nothing you described in your 1st post seemed incorrect.  After changing CV49 did you remove the jumper on J6?  The directions say you can't use both CV 49 and the jumper on J6.

The question also is why would you need 2.5 amps for one sound loco?

Hopefully Randy will come along and shed some light on this.

 It's the capacitor inrush but the PSX is supposed to handle that. Maybe not in the weak system boost mode with the jumper on. Plain running current, if the loco is pulling more than 1 amp, something's not right with it, but on initial startup, it can easily go over that to charge the keep alive capacitor.

Correct, I should have also said to solve the problem I had to remove the jumper from J6.
