I have a Hornby Rivarossi Allegheny with factory equipped sound & dcc. I recently completed a full loop on my layout and decided to bring it out for a coal drag, (Up in till this point I've just been running it back and forth on a piece of track) but I've run into two stalling issues. One the locomotive stalls when the (front) 6 wheel tender truck crosses over a switch frog. Though if I push it so the front tender truck clears the frog, it runs off with no issue. Second it gets very jerky when running up grade underload. I believe this is because the load of the train pulls back and up on the tender, lifting the front tender truck off the rail, thus losing electrical contact.
If the locomotive is stopped I can lift the rear 8 wheel truck of the track and remains powered up. However, when I lift the front tender truck of the rails it completely dies. Do others’ Rivarossi Alleghenies act similar to this?
I’m curious as to why the front tender truck on my Allegheny seems to be critical to operation, even though both front and rear trucks have electrical pickups. Should the wheels on the locomotive also be picking up power? Can anyone provide me with some guidance to remedying this issue? Also if anyone knows where I can find a complete wiring diagram that would probably be helpful.

I had problems running mine through Kato #6 turnouts that were in series, one right after the other. Kato #6 tournouts have long plastic frogs. When I inspected it I found that each tender truck only picked up power on one side, and the firebox truck picked up on both sides, if I recall correctly. I could not find any electrical pickups on any of the drivers.
It sounds like you are not picking up power on one side of the locmotive, or the power is not getting to the tender. I would check the tender-locomotive connections and be sure they are secure. Two of those wires should bring power from the locmotive pickups to the tender for processing. I hope this is a simple fix for you.

Sounds to Me that You have a pick-up problem on the Engine and the tender. The right side of the engine should be picking up power + from the right rail going forward and one of the tender trucks, whether front or rear, should also pick-up from the+ right rail. The left side of engine possibly one of the front drivers should be picking up- from the left rail going forward and also one truck on the tender should also be picking up - on the left rail going forward. That is how the DC ones are wired......I don't believe they changed how they pick-up power with the DCC versions.
