Updating Digitrax gear
Posted by twincreeksRR on Friday, December 2, 2016 8:08 AM

I am currently using a DCS100 and DT400 throttle. I would like to go wireless with my throttle.

My layout is about 300' of mainline, run no more than 8 locos at a time and is in a 12' x 22' room.

Can my current system be upgraded or should i just get a new system?

Is the IR system out of production and does it require pointing the throttle at a receiver like a TV remote?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Your DT400 can be factory upgraded to a DT402D(full duplex).  The Digitrax web site has instructions/pricing to do the upgrade.

You will also need a UR92 radio receiver that plugs into the LocoNet(like the UP5).  The simplex radio throttle support(UR91 receiver and DT400R or DT402R throttle) is being dropped as parts are going to be no longer available.  IR function does work, but can be 'iffy'.  If your ceiling and walls are white, the signal can bounce around and get to the receiver...

My suggestion is go 'duplex' so you do not end up with a dead-end throttle or receiver that cannot be fixed next year...
