Ok i started with a power cab from nce. Been great for working around the bench. But my father in law want to build a layout but it will be a while before it will be doNe. If i buy another power cab for him how would i upgrade it down the road?
alco's forever!!!!! Majoring in HO scale Minorig in O scale:)
Which layout are you upgrading yours or his or are you wanting to use both powercabs on one layout?
David Popp is doing a series on MRVP on DCC installation. Part 2 was adding jacks for multiple controls, Part 3 was adding a booster, Part 4 will be power districts.

Mike,
You can use a 2nd Power Cab as an extra throttle with your Power Cab. You'll just plug it into the RIGHT (non-powered) connector port of your PCP panel.
If you want to upgrade a Power Cab from that, you'll need either the 5A Smart Booster (SB5) or a PH Pro. In either case, the Power Cab automatically reverts to a ProCab throttle so there's no "upgrade" necessary of the Power Cab itself. It can program locomotives at your bench, power your layout using the PCP panel, or be used as an extra throttle.

Time...It marches on...without ever turning around to see if anyone is even keeping in step.
Thanks that was what i was needing to know. A 5amp smartbooster. His layout will be about 12-15 feet long and would run 3-5 trains. No more than 3 at a time. I figured i could take my power cab over and that would give another throttle when the kids want to run the layout.
Works for me too whenever i get to a point of building something. His will plug into mine. Thanks so much for the clarification
