Issue in BLI Cab Forward Sound , light and opeararion in reverse !
Posted by sanjeeev on Friday, September 16, 2016 5:28 AM

Hello All,

THis is my first post on one issue I am facing with BLI Cab Forward Sound , light and opeararion in reverse !

I was using this loco in DC mode and was running cool, and yesterady suddenly its stop giving sound, lights and started operating only in forward direction, no response in reverse voltage.

I tried to power up directly to pickup, sensing there may be pickup issues but no sucess, any idea what can be this isssue ? any solution ?

I've had quite bit of experience with BLI locos lately. I guess my first question is this a Blueline, Paragon2, or Paragon with QSI?

You mention that you were "using this loco in DC mode". Is this still the case? Or are you now using DCC?

I ask because a number of my BLI loco were initially used on DC. Recently I convereted to DCC. Some of these locos started giving me similar problems as you've described. This started to occur infrequently with DC but increased, and then got to the point of being completely useless with DCC.

It turned out (for me) that the locos in question really needed some maintenance, cleaning the wheel bearings and all electrical contact points with an electrically enhancing lubricant. I use DeOxit.

The Blueline locos seem to have been more problematic than Paragon models. One T1 Duplex (Paragon2) needed all the wheels throroughly cleaned when brand new right out of the box before it ran right.

For cleaning wheels & track I use ACT-6006. Steam locos can be a real pain-in-the-@$$ to clean. Using a pointed-tip cotton applicator can make it easier to get down into the flange crevasse.

Thanks for reply.

Its a "Blueline, Paragon2" - Paragon2 SP Cab-Forward AC4/AC5

which contains BLI Sound system & their own decoder, when asked them said I need to replace with $35 new one !

Yes , I am still using it in DC mode only, never tried DCC other than it's been featured in that.

Yes I got your point of cleaning the wheel bearings and all electrical contact points with an electrically enhancing lubricant, but in present situation I am not relying to pickup from rails as trying to directly power up , but still nothing is working.

One fault which I might have done is I have put the engine on rail & given 12V (500 mA) supply instantaneously , mean not in increment, I was fearing if that blow up any of component in Decoder or capacitor of decoder ?

Is there is any way to test this decoder, to confirm its purly non functioning ?

thanks for your reply.

I am not sure, replided to your message, but could not see update so re answering.

Yes its Blueline, Paragon2, so loco is with BLI self Sound system, and I am running only in DC mode never run loco in DCC mode.

In addiiton, one thought this happen when I powered up the Loco directly at top voltage of 12V , I dont know if this has caused any failuare ?

Thanks
