Economi Flex Map Technology?
Posted by blabride on Thursday, June 9, 2016 1:49 PM

Hello,

Does anyone understand this new way of function remapping. I am trying to program FX3 and FX4 on a ECO PNP for a gyra light and a beacon on my Frisco GP40 2. I realized after nothing was happening that FX3 is F24 and FX4 is F25. Wow I did not know any controllers went that high. I read the Soundtrax manual until my eyes bled and could not understand what they were trying to tell me. Not unusaul for me and soundtrax.

How would one map these to a useable button?

Thanks

SB

You did not state which function keys you want to use so in the following example
F15 and F16 are used.
You have hard wired decoder FX3 output to a light and FX4 to the beacon light
Use the  Econami Diesel User’s Guide and read all of each page then use as look up the following examples and info for that page.

CV 32 must = 1

Page 37 Function Mapping Defaults
Table P. Flex-Map Default Settings
F24 = FX3 Output CV 1.259 = 24
F25 = FX4 Output CV 1.260 = 25
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Page 21 Configuring Lighting Outputs
Table E. Hyperlight Select
CV 51: FX3 Program to value of  3 for Pyle-National Gyralite
CV 52: FX4  Program to value of 7 for Western-Cullen Rotary Beacon
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Page 35 Function Mapping
To assign to any Function Key
Using Table M. Effect Map Registers and Value = Function Key table
CV 1.259: FX3 Effect  Program to value of 15 to assign it to Function Key 15 (default is 24)
CV 1.260: FX4 Effect  Program to value of 16 to assign it to Function Key 16 (default is 25)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Flex-Map function mapping CVs allow you to configure automatic effects that respond to direction and movement.
using Table N. Effect Aux. Map Registers and Table O. Auto-Effects
CV 1.387: FX3 Effect Program to value of 1 for on when Forward-Driving
CV 1.388: FX4 Effect Program to value of 15 for Continuously Active

Thanks for the reply I am trying to remap them to F3 and F4. Its the CV 1.259 and CV 1.260 I'm not sure what to do with.

I do see from a table abit further down page 40 it looks like I can just use CV37 and CV38 to map them to F3 and F4 but I would lose the short horn and dynamic brakes.

Thanks

The information on page 40 (which you can use) is the old method of Function Mapping, which does not use the index method. Thus the index effect map register CV 1.259 FX3 and CV 1.260 FX4 are not used.

Now back to Flex-Map function mapping using index.
Page 35 Function Mapping
To assign to any Function Key
Using Table M. Effect Map Registers and Value = Function Key table
CV 1.259: FX3 Effect  Program to value of 3 to assign it to Function Key 3  (default is 24)
CV 1.260: FX4 Effect  Program to value of 4 to assign it to Function Key 4 (default is 25)
Now ---
Look at Table A. Default Functions on page 5 notice
When F3 is used for FX3 Function Output
When F4 is used for FX4 Function Output
What Function Key do you want to use for
F? - Short Airhorn
F? - Dynamic Brake

BTW what are you using to program the SoundTraxx decoder?
What brand is your  locomotive?

How to program SoundTraxx Econami decoder CV with index
CV 31 = 16 is read-only and cannot be modified

Example:  CV 1.259: FX3 Effect  Program to value of 3 to assign it to Function Key 3
CV 1.259 is a CV index of 1 plus CV 259
Select the active indexed of 1
Program CV 32 = 1 (Default)
Then
Map FX3 Effect to Function Key 3
Program CV 259 = 3
When CV 31 = 16,  CV 32 = 1 and CV 259 = 3
CV 1.259 is  3

OK I think I understand I don't actually program or input say 1.236 into a CV instead. If I wanted to put FX3 into F11 I would

Program CV32 to 1 and CV259 to 11

I am currently using a powercab to program although I have ordered a Digitrax PR3 extra to move to Decoderpro due to the indexed CV's on these new decoders as my layout is all Digitrax with DT402's.

Looks like the decoder folks have shot ahead technologicaly from the throttle folks.

Yes, but you now have both FX3 and Brake using F11.

The factory default for CV 1.275 Brake Function is F11.

Also CV 32 = 1 is factory default so you do not need to program it, if you know for sure you have not changed CV 32.

Hmmm that is what I was hoping to do the F3 and F4, It would be fine with me for the short horn to sound to turn on FX3 so I am confused if they over ride the previous function or not.

Thanks for your helpa and patience.

SB,

Oh, yeah, I'd so want DecoderPro to do this with. Indexing makes my head spin.

Note that the NCE USB interface will get you to Decoderpro with the PowerCab. It's what I use for my programming track with DP.

. . .  I am confused if they over ride the previous function or not.

SB

Not.

Multiple effects can be assigned to any Function Key.

Are you lights incandescent bulb or LED?

Program the lighting effect to what you want.
Example
Refer to Page 21 - Hyperlight lighting effects
CV 51 = 3
CV 52 = 7
Which is
CV 51: FX3 Configuration = 3 Pyle-National Gyralite
CV 52: FX4 Configuration = 7 Western-Cullen Rotary Beacon

Why not leave  FX3 on F24 and FX4 on F25 and use automatic effects as follows,
Refer to Page 36 - configuring automatic effects
CV 32 = 1
CV 387 = 4
CV 388 = 15
Which is
CV 1.387: FX3 Effect  = 4 Forward-Standing
CV 1.388: FX4 Effect = 15 Continuously Active

Success. The automatic options are great! I have the beacon and the gyralight to come on in the forward driving only mode like the Frisco I also left them at their default locations.

Thanks Again for all of your help. As a 31 year high school teacher Soundtraxx could use a layman educator to write their manuals. I have been able to figure out TCS and even Loksounds manuals but sometimes Soundtraxx really loses me.

Yes SB. . .  SoundTraxx manuals are difficult for some and the misprints in them do not help.

Should you not know -  the NCE Power Cab does support control of Functions F0 through F28. Covered on page 18 of the Power Cab Systems Reference Manual, Rev. 1.65

I did not know that about the Powercab or I have forgotten it. That is a big help. I do really like the ECO PNP. I just wish it had a 645 non turbo. I have about 5 Gp38 2's that need sound.

Thanks Again
