Atlas Master series with a dual mode decoder.
Posted by mbinsewi on Monday, February 22, 2016 12:34 PM

I'm trying to change the address of an Atlas GP38 with the dual mode decoder, using a Digitrax SEB with the DB150 and the DT400.  Not successful, and now I need to reset the decoder back to default settings.

Digitrax says to contact Atlas, Atlas says contact Digitrax.  I have not heard back from Atlas yet, and many of the manuals and instruction that are link to, on the Atlas web site for DCC help topics, have been removed, the link doesn't work, or their web site is having difficulties.

Has anybody else had any problems with Digitrax / Atlas dual mode decoders, and how do I reset everything back to default.  I'm not finding anything in the Digitrax manuals that came with the set, as far as resetting to default settings.  The manuals I have were last updated on 04/02.  Ya, I know, it's an "older" system.

Thanks !

Mike.

CV8, enter 8. Cycle track power. Headlight should flash a number of times if the reset took. It will then run on address 3.

What address are you trying to enter?  On the DB150 use the pg progarm . You will need to take ALL locos off teh track except the one you want to program. You will need to hit the power button and the + button to turn the throttle back on after you progam.  Joe

Thanks Rich, I couldn't remember what CV it was, reset successful.  Now I'll wait to hear from Atlas, as to anything I may need to know about their dual mode decoders, and Digitrax.

What vintage is this loco? The early Atlas dual mode locos were motor only decoders, and they weren't automatic dual mode - they have a jumper you need to move for DC or DCC operation. Does it run on address 3? What address are you trying to set? If you are trying to set a long address, make sure you are hitting Y when the throttle prompts AD4=? or else CV29 will never get set. Or just program CV29, which is probably where it is failing. Make the address programming attempt, and then set CV29 manually using the value calculated from here: http://www.2mm.org.uk/articles/cv29%20calculator.htm or the Digitrax Toolbox app for your phone. Should work then. The 2mm.org calculator also has the calculations for CV17 and CV18, you cna also try programming them directly with your desired address. Put the address you want, like 1234 in the calculator and it will tell you what to put in CV17 and CV18, and also CV29.

Thanks Randy, Yup, it's the early version, after getting great responses from the Digitrax DCC help desk, I'm not hitting the Y button quick enough after the display reads AD4=? , as it "times out".  I did reset it to default settings.

I also was able to get the Atlas manual for their dual mode decoder, buy coming in through the "back door", as the link to it from their web site does not seem to work.

I would like to set it 0724.  I have reset the addresses on many locos, but I also have quit a few that are still on 03.  I have no problem changing the address on Digitax decoders, this is the first time I have tried it with a different decoder.

Thanks,

Mike.

So to avoid the AD4=? timeout, program CV17 to 194, then CV18 to 212, then CV29 to 34. It should now work as 724.
