Athearn Genesis light board replacement
Posted by basementdweller on Sunday, January 10, 2016 2:52 PM

I am in need of assistance with replacing a light board. Loco in question is an Athearn Genesis HO SD70 ACE, the new decoder is a TCS A6X. I think the loco has 1.5 volt bulbs. The TCS manual is not quite clear on wiring up this decoder. The TCS website does not show this new decoder being installed in this particular loco.

Here is a photo of the existing light board with T4x decoder.

One wire from EVERY bulb needs to go to that 1.5 volt common pad. The other wire from each bulb goes to the appropriate function pad - front headlight to F0F and rear headlights to F0R. The four remaining wires from the four ditchlight bulbs will go to the four pads along the edge for functions 3, 4, 5 and 6.

You will have to remap functions 3 through 6 to function correctly for your ditchlight application (on/off - directional - alternate flashing).

Thank you for the prompt reply, I was editing my post when you replied. Ok so I understand about one wire from each bulb going to that  1.5v pad, makes sense along with the other wires going to their appropriate function pad.

Currently only the front ditch lights go the the four function pads 3 - 6, that is what was confusing me.

thanks.

Hang on ! Are you using an A4X or an A6X decoder ? The A6X supports 1.5 volt bulbs directly, the A4X does not - even though they both have that same large pad.
