Digitrax coil cord plug replacement
Posted by farrellaa on Monday, October 12, 2015 7:44 AM

The locking tab broke off the plug/jack on my Digitrax UT4 throttle. What is the best way to replace it? The duct tape is too messy and makes changing locos awkward!

It's an RJ12 connecter. You need and RJ12 connecter and the crimping tool to replace it. The tool has a wire cutter/stripper and crimper on it. The big box stores sell these. Digitrax has a kit with a 50' length of wire, RJ12 ends and the tool. This is for making the loconet cables for joining the UP and UR panels together.  Joe

I ordered a Klein kit; stripper/crimping tool with a bunch of connectors on Amazon ($33 incl shipping). Home Depot had the tool ($30) but no connectors.

It's good practice to orient the plug, but loconet cable pin out is "mirrored" so the 6 wires are A-B-C-C-B-A and so it does not matter.

For a throttle - no. For other things, particularly additional boosters and BDL-168's, it DOES matter, since two of the wires are the railsync lines and if they connect backwards to a booster, it will produce a DCC signal reversed from that of the upstream booster - Rail A will be Rail B and vice-versa. Safest to just always put the cables together the proper way.

Randy,

I had planned to put the new connector back on in the same orientation that it is now.
