Consist Problems
Posted by picker6 on Sunday, August 9, 2015 6:22 PM

I am having trouble with trying to set up a Consist for the first time and I must be doing something wrong.  I currently have an MRC Prodigy Advance 2 system.  I have 3 Stewart F3 diesels that i have MRC decoders installed.  The first A unit has a 1632/33 Synchronized diesel sound decoder.  The B unit has an MRC 1651 4-function decoder no sound.  The second A unit has an MRC sound decoder item no. 1619, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24.  All support CV-19.  I have read the MRC manual extensively, watched an instructional videa from MR several times but I am still unable to get all 3 units to run as one consist.  If anyone can shed any light as to what to do to get the 3 to run as a single unit, it would be greatly appreciated.

So what is happening? Is one pulling the opposite way from the others? If so, you need to pay attention to the part of the MRC manual where it mentions setting up a consist, it should say how to make one unit run the opposite direction from the others in the consist.

Hi Picker.

Push the Consist button until "Set" appears then push "Enter".  Next you will assign a locomotive number for the Consist i.e. 100; Enter.  Next the number assigned to the decoder of the first locomotive; Enter.  Repeat for the next two locomotives.  If any of the locomotives are to run in the opposite direction push the "change direction" button before "Enter".  Very important- when attempting to run the consist make sure that when you press "locomotive" (to enter the assigned number of the decoder), before entering the consist number make certain that locomotive appears on the top left of the screen iso consist.  If it says consist, push the "locomotive" button again, then enter the consist number.  Hope this helps.

All the best.

If these three engines are going to be permantly connected as a consist, then give them all the same address. The 'A' unit that needs to run in reverse as it's primary direction just needs CV29 changed.

Thanks to all who have replied. Seeing as I will keep these 3 units as a consist 99% of the time i will try South Penn suggestion. Setting all three units to the same address. Can you please explain how and what I need to do to CV 29.

thanhs to all for your help

If you download the Digitrax Mobile Decoder Manual, on page 34 is a chart showing CV 29 values and what they do. AS CV29 is the same in every decoder, all these adresses should work.

Hopefully you know or can find out what CV29 is set at. As you can see in the chart, the codes usually just need to be changed from an even to a odd number or vice versa.

Example: If CV29 has avalue of 35, change it to 34.
