Yard within a Reverse Loop (DCC)
Posted by RicZ on Monday, June 22, 2015 2:01 PM

At the moment I am stumped and needs some advise.  I have a DCC reverse loop that has a yard inside of it.  Will I be able to operate my switching unit in the yard at the same time that a thru-freight is traversing the mainline?  I think it is OK, but not really sure.  there is (or will be) an auto reverser working the reverse loop with proper gaps, etc.

With a decent auto-reverser, everything should run fine at the same time.

Of course, you might wonder until then. I assume it's either not wired or wired to a manual reversing switch? So long as the reversing section doesn't have part of the yard in it, they should be independent of each other.

A yard within a reverse loop will work just fine as long as it is wired as part of the reverse loop.  Locos operating inside the yard, or entering or exiting the yard, will be unaffected by a loco entering or exiting the reverse loop.

If, for some reason, you need to wire the yard separately from the reverse loop, then special wiring and gapping considerations may need to apply.

Mine is wired that way.  It works just fine.

My yard is inside a reverse loop/wye and I run in DC & DCC modes.  I don’t use a reverser but I did install polarity warning LEDs at the turnouts on my control panel.  I use block control so it’s easy to keep the turnout polarity correct.
