I have been around DCC long enough I SHOULD remember this....but I don't.
I just finished wiring in my toggle switch for my new program track. It works fine when in the "run" position. Now, I would like to test it to see if it works in the "program" position. I have the NCE 5 amp powerpro with radio control.

Flip toggle to the program track position.
Bottom left corner of Procab is "Prog/Esc" (program escape) key.
Press this several times until you see "program track" show up on display, then press the enter key.
Put the loco you want to program on the program track and have at it.
Thanks maxman. I pretty much remember how to do the setting of the hammerhead to program track (now that you refreshed my old memory).
What do I look for, adjust CVs? I don't want to mess up the settings, I just want to verify the system works.
If you just want to see if it works, put a non-sound loco on the program track (non-sound because the Procab sometimes does not have enough power to read a sound decoder).
Once you get to the use program track screen and press enter, you'll see three choices appear on the screen (1=std, 2=CV, 3=Reg). Pressing the enter key again will get you more choices, but don't do that now.
1=std is for initial programming of a decoder, so press the 1 key. If the system is working properly, it will start to read the decoder and give you the manufacturers ID number, the version, and so forth. You have to press the enter key to advance after every choice. I believe at that point it will either read the existing short address, or enter the short address you want. Then it should ask you if you want to make that the active address. Then it will do the same thing with the long address.
If you are just interested in seeing if it is working, you can press the prog/escape key at any time. I'd suggest right after the system gives the manufacturer's ID so that you don't make any changes until you know exactly what you want to do.
Thanks again. I will do as you say. It makes sense now. BTW, I have a programming track booster connected in series with the output of the program wires as all my locos have sound.
