Bought NJ international bi-directional signals (no gates) to install on a module for photographing and showing off. I'm trying to get the lights to flash prototypically but not sure what would be best to do to get this to work. Any suggestions?

LION told last person to ask this question to get a snake and let him push the buttons as required. At the end of the day, you can eat the snake.
LION still has no better answer for you, but then LION only uses relays on the layout of him and does not go fo mysteries in little black cases with pins sticking out of them. Relays go CLICK and you can see what it did and why.
LION has lots of relays...
Signals system of him works like a charm, but no flashing lights and no mystery chips.
Some Primate will come, no doubt to your rescue, and point you to a website with black mystery chips, and maybe you can figure those out. LION never could.
Until then maybe one of these circuits may help you. Or just get an automotive flasher and see if that will work for you.
THIS looks like a good one for you.

Circuitron (the Tortoise manufacturer) makes an alternating flasher module (FL-2).
It costs anywhere from $15 too $20, depending upon where you buy it.
It is essentially a small circuit board that can be hidden under the layout or inside a small building.

Rob Paisley provides circuits (free to look) as well as boards, components and fully assembled systems. I just received two of his boards today. The ones I got have photo-detectors to sense approaching trains and drivers for both lights and gates.

For one crossing, I will be using Oregon Rail Supply crossbucks and flashers, while the other will use NJ International gates with flashers and a Tortoise drive to operate the gates.
