So I bought two locos that come equipped with the new Loksound Select onboard sound decoder. They work great. However, when muted, they have an annoying buzz....like a 1999 decoder would have. If the sound is adjusted low, like I like my sound locos, I can hear the buzz through the sound.
Researching the problem tells me it is the BEMF on the Loksounds...BEMF makes for great slow speed ops. I eliminated BEMF via CV 49, and it silenced the decoder buzz...except now the loco takes off from start like a 1970's Tyco.
I've adjusted some of the starting, mid, and top end voltage, but can't get the loco to creep without activating noisy BEMF.
Has anybody figured out the proper CV settings to get a Loksound Select loco to run quietly AND creep at slow speeds, or is this something I will have to live with if I run them muted or with low sound?
Edit: problem solved...simple solution. From the factory setting (or factory reset CV8=8), set CV124 to a value of 20-24 to quiet motor buzz, and it doesn't effect slow speed performance. I wish it was set this way at the factory.

Have you tried the LokSound Select "automatic" BEMF setting to see if that will stop the buzz, even with BEMF active? This is quoted from the LokSound Select User Manual:
Set CV54 to a value of 0. Put the locomotive on the track and press F1. Be sure to have plenty of clear space ahead of your locomotive. Your locomotive will quickly take off at full speed and gradually slow down to a stop while reading the motor responses. This will automatically set the load compensation in CVs 52, 53, 54, and 55. From here you can make any other manual adjustments if needed.
If you haven't already done so, you should go to the ESU web site and download the LokSound Select User Manual.
Take a look to see what value CV124 is set to.
You may find that it has a default of 4? Reset to a value of 20 -24 and see if the buzzing goes away.
Thanks for the suggestions. I have read the manual but have not tried any solution other than the one that I mentioned. Researching the net suggests that others have tried those CV adjustments and have not solved the problem, but its best to try for myself.
I was wondering since Loksound Select has been around for a while, whether or not anybody has experienced my problem and has actually confirmed a solution.
But more suggestions are welcome!

Cacole,
I have read that but haven't tried it. Part of the reason is....is that I'm a bit confused as to what to do next after allowing the load compensation to be set automatically. After the automatic setting, it says to then make any manual adjustments.
Manual adjustments to what...load, or starting voltage, or trim, or something else? More of a technical question for the Loksound guys probably.
Yes, Ihad a unit that was buzzing and chaning CV124 cured it.
Set to 20 to 24 for a value in CV124

Thanks, and quieting the buzz via CV124 did not effect slow speed performance? That's the problem created when quieting the buzz via CV 49.
I'm not trying to be a pest, but I'm unable to try the change until the weekend and may as well ask. I'm just trying to continue the conversation for others who may have a problem and document a clear solution for future searches.
Can anybody else confirm this or have a different CV and value setting that they've found works?
Try setting CV124 to a value of 20, then do the Auto BEMF setting as described above. If the loco pauses too long before moving off for your tastes, set CV124 to 16 instead.

Is the OP absolutely certain the buzz is coming from the motor and not from a defective speaker?
Removing the shell so a closer examination is possible would be my first act.
Solved the problem. The suggestion of setting CV 124 to 20 - 24 cured the buzz and did not ruin slow speed performance.
I did a factory reset, CV8 = 8, then simply set CV 124 to 20. I have twin locos that did the same thing right out of their boxes, so I set the other one to CV124 = 24 just to be different. 24 has the same effect as 20. There was no need to do the automatic adjustments in CV 52-55.
Makes me wonder why Loksound just doesn't set it that way at the factory? Who wants buzz? Oh well....
Thanks to everyone for the help!
