Sound decoder for Alco C415 with 251 8 cylinder engine.
Posted by npsixtynine on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 9:15 PM

I recently finished a heavy kitbash/repower of one of the old AHM Alco C415s.

I also saw & heard a video of these beasts with the most unique diesel sound I ever heard.

Does any company make a sound decoder that replicates the very unique sound of the Alco 251 V8 diesel engine?

Gotta have that sound...

Thanks

Larry B

No, no one makes a decoder for the C-415.

This will probably too far down the road for you, but Bowser is planning on doing the C-415 - they are currently out gathering dimensional data. I've also heard ESU planning to record one of the few remaining active C-415s, which would make sense seeing as how Bowser uses Loksound decoders.

Once released, the sound file will be available to the general public.

Jay - What happened to the link in your signature for your C-415 build ? Says that thread cannot be found. (?)  I distinctly remember it.

Hmm, just a little less 'beefy' than the 16 cylinder, but that same chug chug chug is there. The first video I found, you can really hear it. Under light load it's almost like an antique car. Also noted in the video I found - even running light, the motor revs a bit before it moves! And under load - it smokes up just like a proper Alco!

I recall one of the members on the Loksound Yahoo Group created an Alco 251-6 cylinder that had a really good bark to it.

Thanks for all the info. I guess I'll have to wait for the Bowser C415 sound to come out someday.

Check http://pnwr.qstation.org/BNTribute/SPS/C415/BN_4011.html for that great C415 sound at work on a former SP&S unit.

That's the video I saw, only I got to it directly on YouTube.
