Just received a couple Evans Designs camp fires rated 5-19 volts and includes Bridge Rectifier for all AC,DC or DCC use. I want these to operate when the layout is on for the Hobo camps. Is it smart to solder in to the DCC bus of the DigiTrax system or should I use another, meaning seperate voltage hook-up as I have many different DC voltage transformers running on the layout for other purposes? Doug
It should work, but why are you using DCC power(13-15 volts) that is meant for your railroad? Wall Wart power supplies are cheap(and I bet you have a cuple laying aroung).

What amps from the DCC system do you have?

If you ever fall over in public, pick yourself up and say “sorry it’s been a while since I inhabited a body.” And just walk away.
Same as another recent thread on a similar topic. They probably don;t draw enough power to materially affect your train running power, however you do not want to make a habit of connecting accessories to the DCC power because eventually you WILL have enough things to use up a significant portion of the power. You can always add more, but a booster + power supply is a lot more expensive than just a plain power supply to runt eh accessories.

I run 5 amps on the Super Chief. I have many wall warts of different voltages for different items on the layout but these camp fires sit right over the bus and they would be the only other items I would be running besides the track power from the bus. These camp fires use 20ma of power each and I ask only for the reason of not wanting to mess up the operation of the bus, or blow up the the three LED's that make up the camp fires. Doug
