I'm building a 28" x 48" Christmas themed portable layout that I have KATO Unitrack for. It's going to be run on a MRC Prodigy Express DCC system. Under the layout, I'll have an older Atlas transformer to use the AC terminals for building and street lights.I'd like to wire the KATO switch machines so they can be thrown by a toggle switch instead of the KATO switches. I do have the DC to AC adapter that KATO sells; but, since I'm not suing the DC output of the older transformer under the layout (just the AC for lighting), would it be possible to leave out the KATO adapter and run the switch wires from the turnout, through the toggle switches and directly to the DC terminals? Thanks for your help.Mike
Mike,
For your simple set-up..yes you can, as long as the Atlas transformer is rated at least 1 1/2 amp output. The Kato machines use 12vdc 1 amp to work. You may experience that when you throw a switch, the AC lites will dim every time you use it, but should work. A 2amp supply would be better. Make sure your toggles are momentary spring loaded type.
