All my diesels sound alike!

I have a BLI NW2, an Intermountain F3 and a A/B set of Walthers E7's. They all sound "OK" but not much, if and, difference.

Can I replace any of the decoders with more realistic sound?

Could I change any CV's  just for a change?

Thet all have a varient of the 567 engine. E7 has 2 567A V12, NW2 567A V12(1), F3 567B V16 so yes they sound a like. Search Locsound and try their sound samples.  Joe

I looked at the Loksound website but cannot figure out where to locate a decoder for a particular loco. Besides the Diesels, I have several small steamers I would like to upgrade as well.

On the ESU-USA web site, click on LokSound Select; then Available Sounds; then LokSound Select USA; and a list of all the available sounds will show up by locomotive type.

But if all your locomotives have the same 567 prime mover, the sound file is going to be the same for all of them.

 Buy an Alco RS3, and an Alco decoder. That will such MUCH different. Or one of those Bowser Baldwin switchers with sound, they sound vastly different again compared to the EMD and Alco prime movers. All are era approriate to the EMDs you have, if that matters to you.

If you don't care about proto sound, you could put anothe diesel sond in one, after all the moter may have been changed out.

Ya They're all 1950's GM/EMD diesels, so of course they sound the same. The only real difference would be the E-units have two motors each. Some sound decoders replicate this better than others; there are some that have stereo output so each motor's sound can go to a different speaker. (The newer Walthers / Proto E-units have openings for two speakers built into them, I assume for that purpose.)

Not if you want realistic sound.  Realistically they should all sound the same since they all have the EMD first generation 567 prime mover.

As a prior poster also noted, if you want some really unusual sounding locos get the Intermountain GE U-18B, or some sort of Alco.

There might be a CV on the Proto-E units to force the sound for the prime movers to be out of sync with each other. I think that is only on the most recent run of them.  Check the owners manual.
