NCE PHPro controller screen is jacked up
Posted by Motley on Friday, January 24, 2014 5:35 PM

I turn on my system today and my NCE Power House Pro 5amp wireless controller is all jacked up. The LCD screen is all jarbled and can't read it. But it still works with running locomotives. Horn, Bell, fwd, rev. all works fine.

I tried different cables, so its not the cable thats jacked up.

Its about 4 years old, and I take very good care of it, never dropped it or anything, have caprted floors in my layout basement.

Has this happen to anybody? I will call NCE on Monday and hope they can fix it.

Happened to me once.  I called them and sent it back for repair.

Elmer.

The above is my opinion, from an active and experienced Model Railroader in N scale and HO since 1961.

(Modeling Freelance, Eastern US, HO scale, in 1962, with NCE DCC for locomotive control and a stand alone LocoNet for block detection and signals.) http://waynes-trains.com/ at home, and N scale at the Club.

How much did they charge? Was it out of warranty repiar? Mine is 4 years old so no warranty.

A few years ago my Power Cab had the back light fail. NCE repaired it for free as I had sent in the registration as soon as I bought it. Some think sending in the registration is a waste of time.

FIRST, make sure your batteries are fresh.  Replace all of them and see if that corrects the problem before contacting NCE.

We have 8 ProCab Radio throttles at our club.  I have periodically had to send some to NCE for repair, and they have always repaired them for FREE, so give them a phone call or email describing your problem and get an RMA number if it's not the batteries.

Well its not the batteries, I just took them out and plugged it in, and still the same.

It may be the OTHER battery, the one in the command station that backs up the memory, etc. It's a CR20323, 2025, heck I'm not sure, but sounds like the symptoms IIRC.

There is a Yahoo Group called NCE-DCC with many expert NCE users participating.  You might try posting your query there.
