twice now my newer computor and win 7 pro has given me the " new version of JAVA is ready for down load" ,I"ve hit no twice now cause Im concerned of conflics with JMRI & PR-3 that I had in october with a win 8 /java /pr-3/ jmri set up .
Any download the latest version or should I "just say no" dont fix what aint broke ? Jerry

This is the first thread that I noiticed, since coming on line just now. So although I don't have JMRI & PR-3, I can't really say for sure, about that, but lately after switching browser's three times now in just one month, part of my now compatibility problem's with MR's new software is related somehow to JAVA. I've lost control of a lot of functions on the site, that were working fine before. I get a JAVASCRIPT.VOID(0); MSG. on btm left of my screen, on some of the functions on the MR website. I don't get that on any other site I am on. I sent Kalmbach an E-mail late Fri. to see if they changed any thing at their end since Mon. I have had numerous conversations with them regarding these issue's, going on three months now. So regarding your question, if it is working fine now, unless you get a definite OK, I would leave it alone for now.

Warning -- that upgrade Java that they want you to download may not be the one you're using from JMRI, so I would first check with JMRI to see if it is coming from them or Microsoft.
If it's from Microsoft, you should proabably ignore it.
Lets get a few things straight:
I have both a mini-tower system with XP and a laptop with WIN7. Both have the most current production version of JMRI and the most current version of Java - No problems.
No problem asking if anyone has had problems, but some of the replies can be off base...

Java updates have been coming fast and furious from Oracle as they try to fix the security holes. I probably wouldn't update it, who knows what they may break and cause JMRI to not work. Longstandfing issue with Java, once a program is written to a specific version, it won;t run on older ones (part of why JMRI's latest version can't be used on certain older computers - there's no new enough Java for them) and a newer version of Java may also cause problems. It's not as big a deal on a home system where JMARI may be the only java app you use, but on servers, where various management utilities use Java, I've seen as many as three different java versions need to be installed simultaneously. Java does allow for this - one version will be the 'default' but others can exist alongside it and be used by those programs that need it.
