Hi Guys, I was searching for some other info and ran across this posting quoted below.
"With the newer V1.65 chip in the Power Cab, you can operate three (3) additional throttles for a total of four throttles - including the Power Cab. There are also three additional addresses (8, 9, and 10) now available for non-cab devices - e.g. NCE USB interface board, Mini Panel, and AIU. Tom"
After reading that I downloaded the lates manual and also found the default 2 recall slots can be raised to 6 slots.
I can't seem to find the info in the manual about the additional addresses of 8,9, and 10. Does anyone know if I can set the USB or the Mini Panel to 8,9, or 10?
The USB manual says it still defaults or forces itself to 3 with a Power Cab?
NCE sent me the v1.65 chip months ago and I had no idea what it did, I just installed it per the instructions.

Don't really know but why not just try it? That's how I've learned over the years with DCC. Worst that ever happened was it didn't work and I had to try another way.

That is usually what I do but I have bee having issues with the mini panel not starting up reliably at boot up. I think I discovered why last night but it was to late to start testing the address issue.
My other issue centers around using photo cells a train dector for basic train automation. I discovered that a photo cell can be used if you set the trigger on the mini panel to "open" instead of "ground". Problem was that the mini panel would not "boot up" properly but seemed to randomly work every 3 or 7th time I tried to start it.
I was pulling my hair out until I layed a sheet of paper over one photo cell by acident (only 2 installed). The panel booted up every time, uncover the cell and it stopped booting up?
Since the photo cells work fine once the panel is started, I am gussing that the mini panel is scanning the pins at boot up and the photo cells are kind of in the middle of being on or off so the panel fails to start.
It has been a head scratcher!!!
Were the guys on the NCE-DCC forum not able to help you resolve these problems?
I always get the answers that I need from them.
It may also depend on which pins you have photocells on. Most of the microcontrollers used in devices like the Mini Panel have some pins that are designed for multiple types of input and output, while others are strictly digital. Seeing a signal that is not quite above the 'high' threshold and not quite down to the 'low' threshold could indeed confuse it. Try some other inputs, of course this means re-writing the Mini Panel program. Also, if you are just connecting photocells with no other components, adding some resistance in series may help hold it to one extreme while still allowing it to drop to the other when lit up.

I replaced the photocells with reed switches. I used the reed switches for home alarm systems, cheap and plentifull. I installed a magnet in one of the box cars I have modified for cleaning. Works perfectly now.
I was able to put the USB on CAB 4 and I can confirm the 6 recall slots on the power cab.
