is there any reason a DC throttle couldn't use the NCE power panel to power the layout with DC?
I have a simple DC throttle that could be modified with the NCE RJ-12 interface. It would be nice to be able to simply use the NCE wall supply and power panel to power the layout to test a DC locomotive.

I see no reason why not. I have traced out the power panel for my Power Cab.
Be adventurous and try it. Just make sure nothing else that is DCC operated is on the layout.

If you ever fall over in public, pick yourself up and say “sorry it’s been a while since I inhabited a body.” And just walk away.
From everything I've heard, what comes out of the two outer wires fromt he PowerCab unit IS the track power, so there shouldn;t be anything between those pins on the cab jack and the terminals that connect to the track. Might want to examine the circuit board a bit and validate that, and as long as you stay away from cab bus pins in the RJ12 and use only the power in and track power out, you should eb good. ALso make sure no other NCE throttles or the USB interface are plugged in while operating the DC cab. And of course it's only going to work in that one jack on the PCP.

The LED will only work in one direction with the DC throttle.
