TCS WOW & Bachmann 2-8-0
Posted by Guy Papillon on Sunday, December 1, 2013 4:02 PM

Some months ago I went from DC to DCC and converted a Bachmann Spectrum 2-8-0 Consolidation to DCC.  Now that I have tried sound with two BLI locomotives, I am ready to add sound in this favorite steam locomotive.  After some reading and internet searches, I think I will go for the new TCS WOW Sound decoder.  Up to now I had installed three decoders myself but that will be my first sound installation so I have some questions.

  • Did anyone make this conversion yet?
  • Which speaker would be the perfect fit for this pair?
  • Is there any special issue I should be aware off?
  • Where can I find instructions that will be easy to understand and follow?

Any help will be welcome.

I have not made the conversion yet, but I do have a Bachmann Spectrum 2-8-0. Try this website and see if it helps.  http://www.garbo.org/MRR/2-8-0con.html

That would depend on what tender you have. There have been many different tenders issued with the 2-8-0. The main issue is to remove the caps on the Bachmann board.

Guy,

I have just looked through, at least, 10 different, installs, for a Bachmann 2-8-0 Spectrum and how you do it, or which will best fit your needs and will depend a lot on which tender you have and some other, things, which I did not know. So I did not post a link, to any of them. If you would like to view some of them, I found them by, Google, I typed in: Bachmann Spectrum 2-8-0 sound decoder install and found all kinds, including You Tube Videos. Your choice!

LOL

Naturally, none of us have made the conversion but we reply anyhow.

So I will join in the fray.

There are two recent threads that address the issue of adding sound to a Bachmann 2-8-0 although neither deals with the TCS WOW which is relatively new.

Bruce Petrarca has a nice tutorial on installing a Tsunami in a Bachmann 2-8-0.

Hope this helps, at least a little.

Laugh The bottom sentence of the OP's post's, states that: ''Any Help will, be Welcome'', I assume, that to mean, whether, you did one, or not.
