BLI Cab Forward decoder replacement
Posted by R2Rod on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 2:36 PM

Hi group

I have had ongoing problems with my BLI cab forward, one of the original batch purchased in Mar. 2003. I would like to find a good replacement for the Quantum Decoder which has apparently burned out. Any recommendations?

Train Service Depot is affiliated with BLI and can be found on BLI's website (click on the support tab). They perform repairs and upgrades. They might be able to upgrade your engine to a Paragon 2 decoder. http://www.trainservicedepot.com.  Ask for Seneca. Great guy.

Train Service Depot does not upgrade steam engines at this time according to their website. I think I will be going with a Tsunami for this engine.

Thanks for the input. Rick

I think it's very likely that you'll enjoy Tsunami's Heavy Steam/articulated decoder sounds. I've heard several with down firing speakers and proper baffles and they sounded great! Of course your mileage may vary, but it's probably a pretty safe choice for you.

I think Paragon 2's sound in my newer Cab Forward is fantastic! I can hear the reverberation of the metal in the boiler when various steam functions do their thing.

It might pay to hear them both if you can before choosing but either one is a good choice.

Sorry About that.

It was only a few months ago that I gave them a Blue Line Niagara for an upgrade. I have also sent engines to http://www.traintekllc.com/ for Tsunami decoders. They have been diesels but a very good company
