Prodigy Express frozen up
Posted by wblock on Friday, September 27, 2013 9:43 PM

I have an old MRC Prodigy Express (I know it;s a low-end system) that in the last few days has locked up. I can't change locomotives, and in fact no power seems to be getting to the one that is selected. When I turn the speed knob it registers as though the loco speed should be increasing, but nothing happens.I can't find any obvious shorts.  Any thoughts?

I'm no expert on DCC or MRC, but perhaps you should check the feeder wires to the track, or if you have a volt meter see if there is voltage on the track.

Do you have multiple cabs?  Is one perhaps set to control the loco in question?  If so then the Prodigy won't allow the other cab to control that loco.

That's the only thing I can think of that would affect just the one loco.

Correction, have you had that loco set up in a consist?  Has it been released from that consist?  That would do it too.

How many locos on the track? Any with sound? Try taking all the other locos off the track and see if it helps. the low output of the PE may be the culprit.
